Here in New Hampshire the winter is gearing up and I confess that while I would love a moment or two under a palm tree on a sunny beach, I LOVE A GOOD SNOWSTORM! January was all about starting off 2022 with hopes for good health, peace and laughter. It also allowed me and the volunteers of the Holiday Card CHallenge to “take a minute”, to review the 2021 Holiday Card and #cards2connect Challenges. ANd for me, i reclaimed my dining room aka CARD CENTRAL that is consumed and buried by cards during the August-December! Lt Col JJ and I also had many review/planing meetings and I filed all those notes that I had been keeping….It is true that I keep it “old school” with three ring binders of notes and records of thank you notes and such. I am learning to reach for a more hi tech approach and confess that I am loving the efficiently of it all.
This morning I mailed out probably 5,000 of your Valentines for our Troops. They were mailed to two remote Bases in Africa, one in Germany, and to three Navy Vessels. Your cards came from across the USA and each one was better than the next, each one was written with heart for our Troops. I just can imagine that smiles your card swill bring to those far from home. Everyone loves some love!
At the Post Office, someone in line asked me if the Card Challenges are now all year long? Well, I suppose that they now go well beyond the winter holidays, having started that trend with the #cards2connect for our Veterans in residence care communities during the height of the Pandemic. It seems to me that the motivation to #dogoodfeelgood is strong and that combined with the delight and joy that your cards bring to our Troops, Veterans, Families , and now K-9, that we will expand. In 2021, I tried out a mini Valentines Card CHallenge and it was a hit….
You all ready for a HAPPY SPRING CHALLENGE? I figure that while it is cold ( at least in some parts of the Country) and is dark earlier even if you are in the sunshine States, that it would be great for our morale to create HAPPY SPRING cards! THe format will be the same. “ Dear Warrior: Happy Spring! A note of appreciation. A personal note about yourself serious funny. Drawings poems….fav books, sports, hobbies….Sigh first name ONLY. City and state where you love. NO envelopes needed but if you do, please do not seal them If you are from a military/service family, feel free to share . IF you are writing as part of a group, feel free to share”
Send them now or send them say by April 15 or so, then I will get them out to our Troops to welcome the bringing of Spring! Let me know if you have any questions Holidaycardsnh@gmail.com
Just a note for teen service groups, I am happy to complete volunteer hour forms for you.
